Royal Bath & West Show, May 2009 Every year the RB&W Show brings something or someone special to the Bath & West Railway and this year was no exception. On Friday May 29, we were privileged with a visit from HRH Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales. It was intended that ESSMEE's chairman George White would show the Prince around HQ, but He opted - spontaneously - for an unplanned (but not unexpected) trip over the entire line. After that exceptional honour, where next for the Bath & West Railway? It's clear we now need a Royal Coach! The weather held for most of the Show, with exceptionally fine days on Friday and Saturday. The B&WR carried a total in excess of 6,900, with 2,000 on Saturday alone! This is a decent increase on last year's total of 6,558 considering the economic climate. If you click on a thumbnail, a larger picture will appear in a separate window. |

6. The
Prince of Wales is welcomed to the Bath & West Railway. It is alleged that
his first words were "How does one get a ride on the train?" To which
Chairman George replied "You pay £1.50 , Sir", but I suspect He
got a complimentary ticket!

George have a little tête-à-tête
as the royal train prepares to depart. One wonders what they talked about,
doesn't one?
