Phase 4 track, Winter 2007

The push to complete the loop around the lake has begun! The track bed to the east and west of the lake was surveyed, excavated and shuttering placed in double-quick time. The concrete for the eastern side was poured  and that for the western was delivered November 24. Barring unforeseen setbacks, all is on course for the completion of the track in time for the Royal Bath & West Show, 2008! The Bow-string bridge, which will be the final link in the lakeside circuit has its own page.

Phase 4

1. The concrete for the eastern approach to the cascade is smoothed off. The pier for the bridge is just beyond the gent on the right.

2. The ground to the west of the lake is marked out and the turf cut. Once again, we thank our friends at the Showground for their help.

3. The surveying druids read the runes of their sophisticated patented leveling device.

4. A fleet of barrows were deployed to deliver the concrete along the line of track.

5.  Young and old helped out in different ways. But I think someone has cheated here!

6. The gang in action, using everything from bits of wood to the very handy muck-truck, on loan from Paul Helps Landscaping.

7. The last barrow-load! Beyond this point the track curves to the left into the trees towards the cascade bridge.

8. About 2/3 of the length of concrete laid on Nov 24. The line curves to the left to join the reversing point.

9.  The ever-helpful Roger Cock excavates the cutting. The waste has helped to form the embankment to the west of the bow-string bridge.

10. The embankment can be seen snaking off from the west end of the bow-string bridge between the trees.
