Open Weekend, October 2009

Our Open Weekends have something for both our own members, visiting engineers and the public. This October's event was bigger than previous ones, with a fine selection of guest machinery, including a large number of road vehicles of all sorts of sizes, as you will see below!

There are links to YouTube videos of this enjoyable weekend on the Videos page.

Open Weekend, October 2009

1. The resident loco& 'Tinkerbell' from the East Somerset Railway came to visit and to sample the B&WR mainline. Another fine example of this design.

2. An eastern European diesel, rather dwarfing the electric class 59 behind! These locos are on the new steaming bays, completed earlier this year.

3. IoMR .6, 'Peveril'. A lovely representation of one of the island's many Beyer Peacocks. But then I'm biased towards stuff from Gorton.

4.  A pair of Foden overtype lorries. Road machines are a bit in short supply at ESSMEE, so it was good to see some visitors.

5. An impressive Fowler tractor. The original Leeds company made, to my mind, the most impressive road and agricultural engines. And in that lovely black, yummy.

6.  The largest example of a steam road machine! A full sized replica of a Locomobile, and capable of a fair turn of speed. Highly enjoyable!

7.  A parade of the road machines, gently oozing a little smoke, oil and buckets of charm. We hope to see plenty more of this at the Showground in future.

8. 'Sir Isaac' comes up the grade towards the crossing with a heavy load. This loco is a stalwart performer on the B&WR.
